Happy Halloween!

It is the Sunday following Halloween and I finally have my computer up and running and a moment to share our costumes with you.  I decided to do a family costume and Claire wanted to be Jessie from Toy Story. So of course she wanted her dad to be Woody and then I was to be Bo Peep.

For Claire's Jessie, I took an old pair of jeans and made some chaps and sewed them on. For the shirt, I bought a button down shirt for $6 from Old Navy and added the yellow cuffs and yoke.  The hat was bought by Grandma from the Disney store.

For my Husband, Woody, I made the vest and he had the rest in the closet.

Mine was a bit more complicated, but fairly easy.  I made a gathered skirt out of pink polka dot satin with a white cotton under skirt.  The top was a pink cotton Old Navy shirt with a blue satin overlay.  I used ribbon and lace to embellish the top.  Then late Tuesday night, I put together a simple pink bonnett.

Here is our family, after a good night of trick-or-treating.  I hope you all had a great Halloween and a great weekend!

Blogger Quilt Festival!

I have been on radio silence for a few weeks.  I have made some commitments and things have fallen through because of illness and my family commitments.  I would like to enter my favorite quilt I made over the summer before my life got crazy.

"All Because Two People Fell in Love" was a gift I made for my husband's grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary.  The quilt is a family tree with a leaf for each child, spouse, grandchild, and great-grandchildren. The tree and each leaf were appliqued onto the background.  

The heart depicts the love that Carmen and Jesse shared.

Here is the branch depicting my father-in-law's branch.  I hand stitched all the names onto the light greens and used the dark green leaves to fill in the background.

The quilt was bound in a similar fabric as the tree.

I am very pleased with the turnout of the quilt and couldn't have had a better response when I gave the quilt to my husband's grandparents.

Technique: Machine pieced back, with machine appliqued leaves and tree. Free Motion quilted on a small machine.

Kindermat Cover

Claire will be starting preschool here in a few weeks and on her supply list was a nap mat and cover, blanket and pillow.  I googled and found some great options on etsy, but of course I wanted to make my own.



The perfect fabric choice was Welcome to Bear Country by Moda. I used 2 yards of the bear country fabric, 1 yard pink microfiber fleece, 1 package of satin binding, and a fat quarter for the strap.  It was super simple and took about 2 hours from start to finish.





Here it is all folded up and ready to go.

September Just Three!

In August I started my job and finished up my first class in my Counseling degree.  So my I am 1 for 3 in my just three for August.

August Goals:
1.  Finish the Stand Mixer cover for my kitchen. No progress...Nothing

2. Make my Craftsy blocks of the month for July and August...Finished!

3. Quilt my placemats. Started on one of them...I am stuck because I do not know how to quilt them.

So now for my September goals..

1.  Nap Mat Cover for my daughter.

August Blocks

I was very productive this weekend and also put together the August blocks for the craftsy block of the month quilt along.  Blocks 15 and 16 are stars using flying geese!

Block #15 is the Ohio Star.

Block # 16 is my favorite so far, the Double Star.

All 16 look so great together, only a few more days until the September blocks come out!

July Blocks

It is almost the end of August, but with a new job I have had little time to sit down to my sewing machine.  This weekend I accomplished the July blocks that have been sitting on my desk all cut and ready to sew.

I love the traditional and modern take on the dresden blocks. Block #13 is the Traditional Dresden Plate Block.

Block #14 is the Modern Dresden Wheel.  I love them both and slightly modified both blocks, by using a print as the inner circle.

I love the look of all 14 blocks together, only 6 more to go!

Just Three

I am going to link up with Just 3 at Traceyjay Quilts this month.  I have come to a point where I am about to have a full time job and some school, so my creative time is about to be dramatically cut.  The job is a great thing, I have been looking for a job for months now and I now have an offer!

So instead of Work in Progress Wednesdays every week, I am going to have three goals for the month. I may still link up with WIP at Freshly Pieced every once in awhile, but for now, I need to make some realistic goals.

Here they go:

1.  Finish the Stand Mixer cover for my kitchen.

2. Make my Craftsy blocks of the month for July and August.

3. Quilt my placemats.

As for my report from last month.  I never got around to posting this because  school, but my goals were:

1. Finish my "Creative Project" for my intro counseling class.  It is completed and I will write it up so I am ready for my presentation this Saturday.  I have been without a computer for a week now so there are no good pictures.  Look for a post soon.

2. Finish my mom's table toppers.

3. Make a matching pillow.
