Cars Birthday Party!

Yesterday was Claire's third birthday party and we all had a blast.  We will start with the invitation.  I downloaded a wallpaper image and used power point to create this very simple invite.

The table was decorated using a packet of punch out decorations I found at Walmart for $10.  The decorations included placemats, confetti, stand-up cut outs, and lots of other little decorations.

The bar (where the food was staged):

My pride and joy, the cake.  It took me three days to bake and decorate.  I used a Williams-Sonoma cakelet pan for the Cars and placed them on a strawberry cake with cream cheese icing.

Finally, an action shot of Claire eating Mater.

The most important things was Claire had a great time at her party.  We loved having lots of family over to celebrate her 3rd birthday.

WIP Wednesday!

So this is the big birthday week!  Claire will officially turn three next week, but we are having her birthday party this weekend.  So I need to start baking.

So this week I need to bake a Strawberry Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.  But first, I need to make these adorable cakelets and today while googling I found the way they were decorated.  The Blender is a blog from Williams-Sonoma and they describe how they were made in the photos.

The plan is to make the cakelets and place them on the strawberry cake.  I have to sketch out a few ideas before I start. Or I may wing it on Friday.

Now onto my sewing projects.

I turned a $1 boys t-shirt into some PJs for Claire.

I also made a sheet set to coordinate with the quilt I made.  I finished a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcase in about 2 hours. Such an easy project.

As for unfinished projects, I am still working on Claire's growth chart.  I am also still undecided on my swoon quilt, so for now that one is on the shelf.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!  We are having a great day.  Claire went to story time and actually paid attention.  Normally she is off playing in the store, but today she sat on the rocking horse and listened to the stories.

This past weekend Claire had her picture taken at babyearth by Amanda from Pretty Portraits Photography.  She did a wonderful job and I wanted to share the photo she took of Claire.

And on Sunday, we got a few little snowflakes.  Probably our first and only of the season.

February Blocks of the Month

This weekend I decided to work on the half square triangle blocks from Amy Gibson's online quilt class.  I love the blocks and half square triangles.

First up on Saturday was the Balkan Star.  I love the way it turned out and I think I did a much better job compared to my previous blocks.

Next up on Sunday was a chunky chevron.  I absolutely love chevrons now.  The block is just so pleasing and I am thrilled with my fabric choices.  For this block I tried starching.  I starched before I cut and throughout the process when I felt like I needed it.  It was much easier to piece because the fabric was a little bit stiffer.

Now, for all four together:

I am loving this class, if you want to learn a bit about quilting, head on over to Craftsy.com and take the FREE block of the month class.

Ladybug Lane

As you can see, I have changed the name of the blog.  I wasn't a real big fan of Cheryl's Creative Crafts and Ladybug Lane came to me yesterday while I was cleaning out Claire's closet.  I am  looking around to update my blog look again, but haven't found one I am in love with yet.  I love the colors of my current layout and I want to go with something similar.

I hope you stay with me through the changes!

WiP Wednesday

So it is Wednesday again, and I noticed I skipped last week.  So what have I done in the past two weeks?

I finished Claire's Cars quilt and it is already on her bed:

I also finished a little mini quilt I hung in my bedroom:

I made a swoon block and now I am unsure of how I am going to proceed.  Part of me wants to make it a mini-quilt and hang it on the wall above my bed and part of me wants to make a queen size quilt for my bed.  So for now it is just sitting and waiting for me to make a decision.

Today I began a mini quilt for:
Modern Mini Challenge

I am making a growth chart for Claire's room out of the Cars quilt scraps. It is going to be adorable.

So far I have made no progress on my Longhorn T-Shirt Quilt.

Paper Piecing

I have been wanting to try paper piecing for awhile now, and I found the perfect little project on the Sew, Mama, Sew Blog today.  Kelly from kellbysews created and easy to follow tutorial to make a cute mini quilt just in time for Valentine's day.

Here is my scrappy version (and I just noticed the O is upside down, oh well!):

I am no longer afraid of paper piecing and I love the idea of a mini quilt.  I was able to complete and entire project in one evening.  Such a satisfying feeling.  I decided to hang up my mini quilt above my dresser in my bedroom.

Check our Sew, Mama, Sew for a great tutorial and templates.

It is finished!

My first finish of the year is a Cars quilt for my daughter, Claire.  She loves the movie and I found such great fabrics for the quilt.  After all the heartache, watching Claire's eyes light up when it went on her bed made it all worth it.

I decided to bind the quilt in white after debating between the red print, tan print and blue print.  I am glad I made the decision to go with white.

And the back, the white tied it all together and I am loving it.
And just one more photo.

And now to decide on the next project!  Happy Quilting!

Wicked!

Last night Jay took me to see Wicked: The Musical at Bass Concert Hall in Austin.  We had great seats and it was a wonderful date night.  If you get a chance to see Wicked, go see it.  It will completely change your view of The Wizard of Oz.

The actors were amazing, especially Anne Brummel as Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West) and Tiffany Haas as Glinda the Good Witch.

Thank you for a wonderful Birthday/Christmas present, I couldn't have asked for a better night!
